Experience Outrageous Joy”
The Book of Philippians
Maybe it’s time for a little laughter. Life can become so serious that we get lost in the daily grind and forget that lightheartedness is like good medicine to the soul. Over the coming weeks, we are going to learn how to experience outrageous joy, how to relax more, how to release the tension, and refuse to let circumstances dominate our attitudes.
Let me show you how the same theme resurfaces over and over in each of the four chapters:
Chapter 1: Paul Smiled in spite of __________________
Even with Problems He discovered laughter in living.
Paul smiled when he prayed – 1:3-4
Paul smiled despite his conflicts. 1:18
Paul smiled even though he was in chains
1:6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
1:21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Chapter 2 Paul smiled in spite of other people’s _________
Even in difficulty He discovered laughter in _______________
Paul Smiled: He had learn the secret of putting Others First 2:3
Paul Smiled when he obeyed because he put Jesus First – 2:9
Paul just smiled because he adjusted his Attitude First – 2:14 2:5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus
Chapter 3 Paul Smiled in spite of a lack of earthly _____
Despite lack of recognition he found Laughter in Eternal Things
Paul laughed at his losses. He knew that Status is worthless – 3:7
Paul laughed Because what is done for Christ is worthwhile - 3:8
3:10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death
Chapter 4 Paul Smiled instead of ___________
Despite his many concerns he found Laughter in Resting
He replaced anxiety with a smile in prayer. – 4:6
He replaced concern with laughter through Contentment – 4:12
4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!
No matter your difficulty you can choose joy. Jesus said in John 15:11 “I want to give you my joy so that your joy may be complete.” It is a great gift. Simply ask, “Well then, Lord, give it to me.” You can experience an astonishing change no matter your age or circumstance. Basically there are two kinds of Christians. Those who choose joy and those who don’t. Which one are you?
