No Purpose?
Psalm 101
Some people seem to drift aimlessly through life, headed in no specific direction. Without clearly defined objectives, it is not surprising that many adopt a lifestyle that lacks definition and purpose. Purposelessness is like moving that pile of sand. It is to have no goal, no aim nor direction. The psalmist chose not to live a life without purpose. Perhaps more than any other passage of Scripture, these eight verses explain David's spiritual goals. This song represents his credo. It declares his aims.
Develop significant Convictions (1-4)
Conviction is a strong persuasion that is a driving force in your life.
"I am bound by the Scriptures I have quoted and my conscience is captive to the Word of God." Martin Luther
Consistency 1
David sang praises in good times and _________
Consistency is the conviction that God is the Lord no matter what
“...shall we not accept adversity as well? Job 2:10; 1:21
Integrity 2
Wise and blameless _______________ - public integrity
Conduct within my house - private integrity
A blameless heart - personal or inner integrity
Integrity is based on the conviction that God examines our life
Focus 3
We set "________________ things" before our eyes as entertainment
The condition of our heart will dictate the slant of our life’s work
What you set before your eyes will cling to you
Purity 4
Humans are born with a voracious curiosity about perversion and evil
David resolved to "___________ no evil."
Take Action (5-8)
1. The Slanderer 5a
I will destroy –"to put an end to."
Develop a conviction to put an _______ to gossip and slander
2. The Proud 5b
I will not endure –Pride reveals itself In the eyes and In the heart
3. The Faithful 6a
My eyes will be on the faithful
Proverbs 20:6 Who can find a faithful ___________
Proverbs 31:10 Who can find a virtuous ______________
Conviction: find faithful men and women as your associates
4. Blameless 6b
He will serve me - looking for leaders? look for ____________
5. The Deceiver 7a
He will not dwell with me - keep the deceiver away
6. The Liar 7b
He will not continue in my presence - A liar can not be ___________
7. The Wicked 8
I will destroy –There was no room in Jerusalem for criminals
Now that is conviction. Never let your reputation be such that you are considered one of the gang. On the contrary, do your very best to expel every evil influence from your life. “You can move piles of sand all your life, or your values can change the world!” That’s the power of purpose.
