The Carona Virus hits extremely hard. It has overburdened hospitals and taxed medical teams. Even so, in the darkest hallways in the world, God is doing an amazing work. He has caught their attention, and I hope he has your attention. Today we are going to talk about the very last King of Judah, named Zedekiah. And although God did everything in his power to get Zedekiah’s attention, the last King of Israel was so stubborn and stiff necked, that he simply refused to listen. Because he and the nation were so evil, God finally cast them out of His sight, and into captivity.
The Stiff-Necked King 36:11-14
Zedekiah was the __________ king of Judah.
Nebuchadnezzar made Zedekiah a vassal king.
Only the poorest of the land did not go into captivity.
Even so, Zedekiah ________________ refused to turn to God. (12)
Some people are so stubborn that they simply will not listen to God!
#1 He was an evil man!
#2 He refused to humble himself before the Lord.
#3 He broke his word and inadvisably rebelled against Nebuchadnezzar.
#4 He had a stiff neck and a hard heart.
His Kingdom was ___________________. (14)
The priests and the people engaged in detestable practices.
They defiled the House of the Lord.
The End of an Era 36:15-16
For five hundred years the kings reigned in Jerusalem.
God was very clear about what he expected of them
_________ after time the prophets were sent to them. (15)
Of the 20 kings of Judah, only 5 were good, the rest were evil. Eve
Jeremiah, dedicates more space to Zedekiah that to any other previous king.
He threw the prophet into jail where he was left to rot.
Jeremiah warned of the impending doom. Jeremiah 21:3-5
What he prophesied came to pass. 2 Kings 25:1-7
It was a sad ending.
Maybe you are saying to me. I don’t like that ending. I need some encouragement. I don’t want our country to end like Judah. Give me some hope! Here is your hope. God was not done with the nation! He didn’t cast them out in order to cast them away for good! He left them a hope! They would return to the land! They would rebuild the temple! They would find peace, independence, and joy once again.
And they would be the birthplace of the prophesied Messiah who would come to save the world from their sins. If I had a remedy for the Corona Virus, I would gladly give it to you and you would gladly receive it. And if I had a remedy for the human virus of sin and death, I would even more gladly give that to you as well!
Well I do! There is hope, because Jesus the Messiah has come!
